- 'An irreversible loss': Hostage families demand security cabinet reach Gaza deal. Hostage families gathering outside the "Kirya" in Tel Aviv on August 31, 2025.. (photo credit:AVSHALOM SASSONI/MAARIV)Family members of the hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza have gathered outside the "Kirya" on Sunday night, demanding to meet with the security cabinet.Family members of the hostages held by Hamas in Gaza gathered outside the "Kirya" (IDF headquarters) on Sunday night, demanding that the cabinet reach a hostage deal, according to a statement released by the Hostages and Missing Families Forum."Your refusal to discuss the details of the deal currently on the negotiation table represents an irreversible loss," the statement said."Sit down at the negotiating table now and don't get up until a viable agreement is reached for the return of every last hostage." Link. It is an utter disgrace that the cabinet for 2 consecutive meetings, has chosen to ignore the deal on the table and not even bring it for discussion. Instead, Netanyahu makes a lame announcement that, in his discussions with Trump, Trump told him that a partial deal is out of the question and only a comprehensive deal should be made. We all know that Netanyahu only listens to Trump and Trump is the only person who can force Netanyahu into a deal. This is the man who is Prime Minister of the State of Israel, a man who cares not a bit about the lives of the hostages, nor the will of the people. He sees the people through a very narrow lense, they only consist of those who vote for him. No one else matters. At the beginning of the war, he said to a close advisor that he doesn't need to talk to or visit the communities that were infiltrated and decimated by the Hamas barbarians because they are not from his voter base. This is not a leader, this is not a prime minister of a country. This is a coward and a self interested political hack who has absolutely nothing to offer the country. He is the diametric opposite of the famous John F. Kennedy speech. In Netanyahu's mind, it goes like this "ask not what you can do for your country, ask not what your country can do for you, ."
- Brother of Alon Ohel at Hostages Square: 'Only when everyone returns in comprehensive deal can we recover'
Ronen, the brother of hostage Alon Ohel, said at the youth rally in Hostages Square in Tel Aviv that "this week we will mark 700 days since October 7. It's such an insane number that I find it hard to grasp it's real." According to him, "returning the hostages was the most important thing for our future as a society. Only when everyone returns in a comprehensive deal can we begin to walk the paths of rehabilitation. I am here to tell you, young people of the country: it's time we take responsibility for our future, that our voice be heard." Link Mother of hostage Matan Angrest: ‘Do not endanger any soldiers to rescue him, we need to reach a deal’
The mother of hostage Matan Angrest pleads for no attempt to be made to rescue her son, a year after six hostages were murdered by their captors in a Rafah tunnel as IDF troops neared.
“My son is still alive and I ask: Do not endanger any soldier to rescue him. Matan will not be able to live with this in peace, and neither will we,” Anat Angrest tells Channel 12.
“No one needs to die to save him. We need to reach a deal and return the hostages home, as well as the soldiers and reservists who are collapsing under the strain,” she says, referring to the repeated call-ups for multiple rounds of military service in almost two years of war.
“Right now, soldiers are being sent to endanger themselves and the hostages,” she says.
Angrest, 21, an IDF soldier, was kidnapped from a tank by Hamas terrorists on October 7, 2023. He is said to be suffering serious injuries.
Just eight hostages have been rescued from captivity alive by troops since the start of the war.
Terror groups in the Gaza Strip are holding 48 hostages, including 47 of the 251 abducted by Hamas-led terrorists on October 7, 2023. They include the bodies of at least 26 confirmed dead by the IDF. Twenty are believed to be alive and there are grave concerns for the well-being of two others, Israeli officials have said. Hamas is also holding the body of an IDF soldier killed in Gaza in 2014.
'In what world does 12-year-old girl wish to have her father returned for burial?'
Karina Engel-Bart and her daughters returned from 52 days in Gaza captivity, but the body of her dead husband Ronen Engel remains in Gaza; she described the ongoing trauma, fear for remaining hostages, and her struggle to explain the situation to her children
Karina Engel-Bart and her daughters, 18-year-old Mika and 11-year-old Yuval, returned from captivity in the Gaza Strip in November 2023 after 52 days, but the family is still grappling with the loss of her husband, Ronen Engel. A photo of Mika in a pink tracksuit carrying one of the Cunio twins under the watch of armed terrorists became a symbol of their ordeal.Sharon Aloni Cunio with her daughters Ema and Yuli, alongside Karina Engel-BartRonen Engel remained a hostage in Gaza and was later confirmed killed, with his body still held there. In an interview with Ynet on Saturday, Engel-Bart described the ongoing trauma and her fear for the 20 hostages who remain alive. “The fear is uncontrollable, the fear that the living hostages are in immediate and constant danger,” she said. “It’s not just Ronen. There are people dear to us who are important to their families and we are waiting for all of them.”She expressed anguish over her children’s experience. “In what world does a 12-year-old girl wish to have her father returned for burial?” Engel-Bart said, referring to her youngest daughter, Yuval. “How can I explain to my children that, after nearly 700 days, we are still in the same situation?”Engel-Bart said the family had prepared for Ronen Engel’s return, expecting all 50 hostages at the time to be freed. “We had already started planning the funeral, deciding who would give the eulogy and the song list,” she said. She described her daughters as strong and resilient. “They see life as carrying a part of their father with them. For them, living is a way to honor Ronen. Yuval devours life in huge bites. She is happy, healthy and amazing,” Engel-Bart said. She also noted lingering effects of captivity, including aversions to certain foods and words. “Even the word ‘quiet’ carries a violent connotation for them,” she said.Engel-Bart recalled other hostages held in Gaza, including Evyatar David and Rom Braslavski, and said: “We don’t need to see the photos to be there. We are there. Seeing the pictures is hard, but it’s enough to close our eyes.” She also remembered David Cunio, who was with them in captivity, saying: “He is not just a hostage, he’s my friend and Ronen’s. Everyone should be home, the living first, but also the fallen. They deserve to be buried in Israel.Asked if they would return to their home in Kibbutz Nir Oz, she said: “Not yet. Nir Oz is still a painful place. But it is the first place that must stand strong because that will be the victory, the hostages home and the soldiers out, and then rebuild the communities better and stronger.” She said she is working to restore normalcy for her children. “There is excitement about going back to school and being with friends. That’s part of being a normal child, and we are working very hard to ensure she can be a normal child, not just a child who was held captive.”Ronen Engel disappeared on October 7, 2023, after leaving the family home armed. Karina Engel-Bart and her daughters were abducted separately, later reunited, while their eldest son, Tom, a soldier, was the only family member who remained safe. Their home in Nir Oz was destroyed. Four days after Engel-Bart and her daughters returned to Israel, the kibbutz announced Ronen Engel had been killed. He is remembered as a photographer, volunteer paramedic and motorcycle enthusiast. LinkSlain hostages Ilan Weiss and Idan Shtivi to be buried today
MAY THEIR MEMORIES BE A REVOLUTION
The funerals are set to be held today for slain hostages Idan Shtivi and Ilan Weiss, whose bodies were brought back from Gaza on Friday in a military operation. The funeral procession for Shtivi will begin at Ahad Ha’am Street in Rishon Lezion at 2:45 p.m.and will reach the Beit Dagan Junction, HaShiv’a Interchange to Route 4 heading north at 3:15 p.m. At 3:30 p.m.the procession is expected to pass the Messubim and Aluf Sadeh interchanges, before reaching the Ono Interchange at 3:45 p.m.
Shivti will be buried in Kfar Ma’as at 4 p.m.
Weiss will be buried at 5 p.m. in Kibbutz Be’eri.
Shtivi, 28, was murdered at the Nova music festival during the Hamas terror group’s October 7, 2023, onslaught in southern Israel.
Weiss, 56, was killed on the morning of October 7, 2023, while defending Kibbutz Be’eri from Hamas-led terrorists as a member of his community’s emergency response team. His wife Shiri and daughter Noga were also taken hostage and later freed during a weeklong truce and hostage release deal in November 2023.
Students at dozens of high schools strike on 1st day of academic year in call for hostage deal
High school students at dozens of schools are striking on the first day of the academic year in a demand for a hostage deal.
The students are refusing to return to classes in light of the continuation of the Gaza war and the government’s perceived foot-dragging in ceasefire deal negotiations.
Yesterday, dozens of teenage protesters blocked traffic on Tel Aviv’s Ayalon Highway and set fire to classroom desks, demanding a general strike ahead of the start of the academic year.
Police arrested two protesters, a 17-year-old boy and a 35-year-old woman, on suspicion of disorderly conduct. Around 20 others were detained at the scene and later released.
High school representatives for hostage release: 'Stop the normalization, 48 of our brothers are abandoned'Representatives of high schools striking in protest for the release of hostages spoke at the Hostages Square in Tel Aviv. Avigail Regev, an 11th-grade student, addressed Education Minister Yoav Kish: "Please stop the normalization. We will not live quietly in a country that abandons 48 of our brothers and sister for nearly 700 days." Gilad Schwartz, a 12th-grade student, said: "We came to remind that power is not a lofty goal but a means to maintain the true just goal, the sanctity of life and security." link The students protesting the government's inactions and continuing abandonment of the hostages see the crisis, like so many of us, as an existential crisis impacting the future of the country we love. Having 48 hostages still in Gaza 696 days cannot be allowed to be a normal situation under any circumstances. These students who will soon be soldiers understand that the government's normalization of the hostage situation affects the entire country, but also has an immediate impact of their lives in the near future. They, like the rest of us were raised on the value of the people's army, where we are all responsible for each other and no one is ever left behind. These sacred values of our society have also been abandoned by this government and these students have this hanging over their heads as they look towards to the next phase of their lives in the army. They specifically see this minister of Education, who is a former Air Force pilot, totally abandoning these values because his political life and allegiances have taken over and political survival for him and his leader are now the guiding light of all his decisions, statements and actions. This former officer and pilot, who lived the values of 'after me' and 'leave no one behind' is now a minister who regularly calls the police to stop demonstrations and protests near his home by violent and abusive means. It is a despicable act on his part, whereby a handful of demonstrators are doing nothing but holding signs and reading the names of the hostages over a megaphone. He is a member of the most rotten government coalition in our history who wants to put October 7 behind them in a locked and invisible closet, to ignore that there are still hostages in Gaza who are there because this government abandoned them and continues to do so for 696 days and counting. He, along with his corrupt cronies wants the public to forget that they are directly responsible for 1200 people killed in the massacre of October 7, on their watch. They want us to forget that 251 of our people were taken hostage by the Hamas barbarians with 48 still there because they refuse to make a deal. They choose to only talk about the 203 who have been released on their watch, and of those 251, 42 who were taken into captivity alive, have been killed, with every single one of those deaths that could have been prevented. Those are not the numbers or the names that they want us to remember, acknowledge or even talk about. He and his corrupt cronies want all of this to be muzzled and forgotten about. And he knows he has a partner for this muzzling, the extremist minister of internal 'insecurity' Ben Gvir who has turned the police into his personal militia and wants every single one of our voices silenced. Ben Gvir is attempting to change the policies and laws of legal demonstrations and protests in order to silence all of us who stand up to the tyranny of this corrupt government. Fortunately, we still have an attorney general who stated unequivocally that Ben Gvir's proposals, some of which are already acted on in the field by his police militia, have no basis in legal grounds and cannot be implemented (AG to Ben Gvir: Plan to crack down on protests violates agreed limitations on his powers)
Unfortunately, he has no regard for the attorney general or the law and orders his police/militia to break the law daily by putting down protests and demonstrations. And this Education Minister, Kish, who in the ideal world would be going out of his way to set an example of what education should be and what education towards democracy should be, instead does all he can to trample democracy and spit on educational ideals when they do not suit him politically. ( Report: Education Ministry removes principles of liberal democracy, role of constitution from civics matriculation exam)

Global media outlets plan to stage blackouts to protest Gaza journalist deaths
Major outlets worldwide will suspend front pages and broadcasts on September 1 in protest of journalist deaths in Gaza and Israel’s press ban; With more than 210 killed since October 7, organizers say the blackout underscores the urgent need for access
Media outlets around the world are planning a coordinated blackout of front pages, homepages, and broadcasts on Monday, September 1, to protest the rising journalist death toll in Gaza and demand open press access. This campaign—organized by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Avaaz, and the International Federation of Journalists—responds to more than 210 journalists killed since October 7, 2023, in the region, while Israel has barred foreign reporters from entering Gaza.Tensions flare as the latest tragedy deepens scrutiny: On August 25, Israeli strikes on Gaza’s Nasser Hospital killed at least 20 people—including five journalists from Reuters, AP, and Al Jazeera—when a follow-up strike hit rescuers arriving on scene. The Israel Defense Forces described the strike as a “tragic mishap,” launching an inquiry and saying it was targeting a Hamas-run surveillance camera near the complex.Israeli officials also assert that many of the journalists killed in the war were actually Hamas operatives, citing intelligence that linked them to terror roles. For example, in the case of Anas al-Sharif, killed in an August 10 strike on his media tent, the IDF said he was “the head of a terrorist cell in the Hamas terrorist organization and was responsible for advancing rocket attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF troops.” Al Jazeera and press freedom groups rejected these allegations, accusing Israel of smearing reporters to justify their killings.Journalism advocates warn that continued violence against media workers—and restrictions on independent reporting—are starving the world of accurate information from Gaza. As RSF’s Thibaut Bruttin put it: “At the rate at which journalists are being killed in Gaza by the IDF, soon there will be no one left to keep the world informed.” LinkHamas expected to increase pressure for deal, IDF to advise Cabinet to consider accepting
Analysis: As preparations for Gaza City offensive continue, Israel is weighing partial hostage deal to save lives while maintaining military pressure, with IDF’s recommendation to Cabinet set to shape both timing of operations and negotiations
The first week of September opens amid heightened preparations for the capture of Gaza City, with disagreements between the military and political leadership expected to surface in Sunday night’s cabinet meeting. The developments follow an assassination attempt on Hamas spokesman Abu Obaida, a symbolic figure who has become the public face of the group and its voice to Palestinian and international audiences. The strike, aimed at weakening Hamas’ psychological influence, is believed in Israel to have killed him.The IDF and Shin Bet emphasized that the operation was planned and executed with careful measures to minimize civilian casualties using precision munitions. Palestinian reports, however, indicate that at least seven people were killed in the attack.Success was also recorded further afield in Yemen. A precision airstrike in Sanaa on Thursday eliminated many senior figures within Houthi leadership, including Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi and several ministers, according to the group. Israeli assessments suggest that, in addition to the prime minister, the Houthi political bureau chief, cabinet secretary, justice minister, economy and trade minister, foreign minister, agriculture minister and information minister were also killed.Officials said coordination between intelligence and the Israeli Air Force has reached a level that allows near-instant operational responses. Once an opportunity is identified, action can proceed quickly, giving Israel exceptional operational flexibility. Years of combat experience across seven arenas have honed unit readiness, field-based operational intuition and efficient integration between intelligence and air force operations.Unlike previous strikes, which were planned weeks in advance, the Yemen operation was triggered by preliminary intelligence. The strike was carried out after a rapid analysis of a fleeting opportunity. The air force achieved precise targeting within hours. Israeli defense officials say the strike delivered a heavy blow to Houthi terror governance and sends a clear message to Hamas: Israel can operate deep inside hostile territory and strike high-value targets far from its borders.'Carrot and stick' strategyAt the same time, the Southern Command is advancing a “carrot and stick” approach to encourage civilians to move from combat zones in Gaza City to the southern Gaza Strip. Additional humanitarian aid distribution centers are being established to support the effort. Hamas is reportedly using force, including live fire, to prevent civilians from relocating, using them as human shields and spreading fear by claiming “there is no room in the south.” Last week, Hamas launched a propaganda campaign to prevent departures from northern Gaza, warning that “from here, you leave only to paradise.” Residents leaving Gaza City (Photo: AP/Jehad Alshrafi) The main “stick” Israel plans to deploy this week is a large-scale mobilization of thousands of reservists, starting in two days. The date was set by the IDF chief of staff to ease the return of school-age children to classes. Reservists will gather at bases for structured combat procedures, review lessons from prior Gaza combat and receive assignments within the operational plan. Some brigades will enter Gaza, others will relieve regular units stationed in the West Bank and the northern command, while regular units are redeployed south for Gaza operations. September 2 will also serve as a test of reservist turnout, with IDF officials hoping for a high participation rate to meet operational needs. Senior officials say these measures are already exerting significant pressure on Hamas to move toward a deal. Analysts expect the pressure to continue, with Hamas likely to offer a partial agreement while releasing videos of hostages to stir public outrage in Israel and prompt protests demanding an end to the war in favor of their return. In Sunday night’s cabinet meeting, the military is expected to argue for considering a partial deal to save at least 10 hostages alive, with the option to resume combat afterward The IDF’s concern is that a forced rescue operation could fail, result in soldier casualties, be halted by international pressure, and place direct civilian responsibility for Gaza on Israel, potentially leading to prolonged military governance. LinkHamas terrorist who held Emily Damari hostage said killed in IDF strike
Report comes after IDF said in July that it had killed a different terror operative who invaded Israel on October 7 and held Damari in his home
Israel recently killed one of the Hamas terrorists who held British-Israeli hostage Emily Damari captive in Gaza, according to a Sunday report.
Channel 12 named the terrorist as Hazem Naim, but did not provide further details, including when the strike was carried out.
In July, the Israel Defense Forces announced that the previous month, it had killed a different Hamas terrorist who held Damari in his home.
Nasr Ali Quneita, who was targeted in Gaza City on June 19, was said by the IDF to be a member of Hamas’s military intelligence unit in the Sheikh Radwan Battalion, known in the IDF as the al-Furqan Battalion, and that he invaded Israel on October 7, 2023, and held Damari hostage in his home at the start of the war.
At the time, Damari responded to her captor’s death, writing on social media: “This is what the face of evil looks like. A face I will never forget. I’m so glad he is no longer [in] our world.”
Damari was kidnapped from Kibbutz Kfar Aza during the Hamas onslaught of October 7, 2023. She was abducted alongside Ziv Berman, her neighbor, who rushed over to her home to make sure she was safe. Invading terrorists shot Damari in her left hand, and another bullet was lodged in her right leg after fatally hitting her dog Choocha in the head.
Ziv Berman and his twin brother, Gali Berman, are still held hostage in Gaza.

Terror groups in the Gaza Strip are still holding 48 hostages, including 47 of the 251 abducted by Hamas-led terrorists on October 7, 2023. They include the bodies of at least 26 confirmed dead by the IDF. Twenty are believed to be alive and there are grave concerns for the well-being of two others, Israeli officials have said. Hamas is also holding the body of an IDF soldier killed in Gaza in 2014.
Hamas released 30 hostages — 20 Israeli civilians, five soldiers, and five Thai nationals — and the bodies of eight slain Israeli captives during a ceasefire between January and March, and one additional hostage, a dual American-Israeli citizen, in May as a “gesture” to the United States. The terror group freed 105 civilians during a weeklong truce in late November 2023, and four hostages were released before that in the early weeks of the war. In exchange, Israel has freed some 2,000 jailed Palestinian terrorists, security prisoners, and Gazan terror suspects detained during the war.
Eight hostages have been rescued from captivity by troops alive, and the bodies of 51 have also been recovered, including three mistakenly killed by the Israeli military as they tried to escape their captors, and the body of a soldier who was killed in 2014. Link

IDF says Hezbollah terrorist killed in south Lebanon strike yesterday
The Israel Defense Forces says it killed a Hezbollah terrorist in a strike in the Nabatieh region of south Lebanon yesterday.
The military says the operative was targeted at a “significant” site for the terror group.
The IDF says the terrorist was acting in violation of the ceasefire agreement reached in November between Israel and Lebanon.
The Lebanese government agreed last month to move ahead with a US-backed plan for the Lebanese army to disarm Hezbollah, although the terror group has vowed to resist.

IDF admits 'Operation Gideon's Chariots' faltered due to slow pace, lack of decisiveness
An internal IDF document reveals operational shortcomings in Gaza, citing poor planning, limited maneuvering, and reliance on deterrence rather than decisive action against Hamas
An internal IDF document concludes that “Operation Gideon’s Chariots” in Gaza failed. According to the detailed report on Sunday, Israel did not aim to decisively defeat Hamas but rather to deter the terror group in hopes of facilitating a hostage exchange—a strategy Hamas reportedly understood. The document, distributed to troops by the Ground Forces’ Operational Learning Center and reported by Keshet News, criticized the IDF’s planning and execution of humanitarian aid as “clumsy,” which it said allowed Hamas to launch a “false but effective” starvation campaign. It also noted that IDF maneuvers were conducted in areas previously used for operations and at a slow pace, providing Hamas with resources and engaging without clear timelines or resource management. This, the report stated, strained Israeli forces and damaged the country’s international credibility. Combat methods, the report added, did not align with Israel’s military doctrine or the way Hamas fights, resulting in “every possible mistake” being made.“Operation Gideon’s Chariots,” particularly in its extended form, was not part of Israel’s 2025 operational plans. While the IDF deployed four to five corps-level headquarters during the ground operation, the public impression of tens of thousands of troops maneuvering across Gaza was misleading. On the ground, only a relatively small number of brigade-level combat teams operated under these headquarters, unlike the large-scale maneuvers seen between November 2023 and mid-2024.Three major Hamas strongholds were left largely untouched during the operation: Gaza City, including densely populated neighborhoods such as Shati, Rimal, and Sabra; the sprawling displaced-persons areas around Khan Younis; and high-readiness Hamas units in central Gaza cities like Nuseirat and Deir al-Balah, due to the presence of hostages. In the follow-up operation, “Gideon's Chariots II,” the IDF plans to target Gaza City.IDF officers speaking last month said, “Instead of a siege, we announce our intent to operate, aiming to clear populations that have already been evacuated multiple times, and it becomes harder each time. Only a large-scale maneuver will achieve this, not a few shells near their shelters.”(Photo: IDF)The current ground operation also differs politically and in its public presentation from fighting in late 2023 and 2024. Military coverage has been dramatically reduced, limiting reporters’ access, and soldiers’ faces are heavily obscured to prevent future arrests abroad on alleged war crimes. Commanders warned that This approach distances troops from the public at a time when support is lower than immediately after October 7.Conflicting messages emerged within the IDF as well. Early in “Gideon’s Chariots,” both the military and political leadership discussed decisive action against Hamas. In recent weeks, however, the stated goal shifted to “pressuring Hamas to release hostages.” Some Gaza-based division commanders believe fighting should continue, citing limited military pressure that has nevertheless eliminated senior Hamas figures, killed hundreds of operatives, and recovered the bodies of fallen Israelis.Observers also noted the use of vague terms, such as claiming control of “60% or 75% of Gaza,” statements that are quickly circulated among hundreds of thousands of Israelis without clarifying practical meaning—echoing similar “empty” declarations of targeting terrorist sites in Gaza from the early 2010s. Link. Like everything else in this horrendous war, there have never been any clear strategic goals or plans. While the actual operations of the IDF are done by the army itself, the overall strategy, goals and high level plans are prepared in coordination with the Defense Minister and the Prime Minister. We can basically say that the defense minister has almost nothing to with it as he was placed there by Netanyahu as his yes man, so the burden falls on the Prime minister together with the senior IDF staff. Since the beginning of the war, the previous IDF Chief was begging the political echelon for a strategic military plan to be followed by a strategic diplomatic plan. That begging went unanswered for the duration and continued with the new Chief of Staff. Netanyahu has never presented any strategic plan for anything in the almost 2 decades of his premiership. The only strategic plans and policies in his sheath are for his own political career, political survival and legacy. Therefore, it is no wonder that the 'Operation" of Gideon's Chariots was viewed as a failure in this IDF classified document. It is also no surprise that the IDF denies the claims in the document, even though it is an IDF document. I have learned a long time ago to take all 'definitive' statements from the IDF with a grain of salt. They are a large organization that also looks to protect itself and prefers as little scrutiny as possible. It takes its lead from Netanyahu who always has the last word. IDF report said to find Israel made ‘every possible mistake’ in recent Gaza offensive Leaked document says bungled aid distribution helped Hamas mount PR campaign during Operation ‘Gideon’s Chariots’ from May to August; IDF feared unprepared for Gaza City takeoverA classified IDF document circulated within the military has concluded that Operation “Gideon’s Chariots” — the army’s name for the major offensive that was launched against Hamas in May and ended last month — failed to meet its core objectives, a report said Sunday.
The document, partially published by Channel 12 news, firmly asserts that the operation did not succeed in either of its goals — to topple Hamas and free the hostages. The material was distributed last week by the Operational Information Center of the IDF’s ground forces and has already been seen by several brigades, according to the network.
Officers who reviewed the document reportedly expressed worry that it augurs badly for the IDF’s imminent push into Gaza City, and doubted whether the army had drawn the necessary lessons ahead of the fresh offensive, codenamed “Gideon’s Chariots II.”
While IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir and other senior officers have publicly praised the Gideon’s Chariots operation, the internal assessment bluntly states that “Israel made every possible mistake” in waging the campaign, according to the report.
It accuses the army of acting “contrary to its own military doctrine” by supplying the enemy with resources through humanitarian aid, failing to impose time pressure, mismanaging resources, and ultimately exhausting its own forces while eroding international support.
According to the document, Hamas, meanwhile, enjoyed all the conditions necessary to survive and claim success, including resources, a secure operational base, and a suitable method of fighting.
It cites Israel’s reliance on “deterrence logic rather than decisive victory” by seeking to continue fighting with the aim of an eventual ceasefire and hostage-release deal with Hamas, something that the terror group managed to exploit during these past few months.
A youth walks with a sack on his shoulder with other people carrying bags of humanitarian aid they received at a distribution center run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), in the central Gaza Strip, on August 22, 2025. (Eyad BABA / AFP)
The document further criticizes “incompetence” in planning and distributing aid, which it says enabled the terror group to successfully mount a global campaign accusing Israel of intentionally starving Gaza’s population.
According to the report, the IDF has maneuvered repeatedly in the same areas at a slow pace, and prioritized avoiding casualties over mission success. It also cites attrition, manpower strain, equipment fatigue, and poor preparation for guerrilla warfare as key reasons for failure.
At thesame time, Channel 12 noted that many within the military credit the operation with lowering Hamas’s demands in hostage negotiations, with the added pressure reportedly increasing the number of captives the group was willing to release in a deal. Hamas last month said it had agreed to a proposal for a phased hostage-ceasefire deal broadly similar to a framework previously backed by Israel. However, the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not responded and is instead demanding a “comprehensive deal” in which all hostages would be released at once and the war ended according to terms set by Israel, including the disarmament of Hamas, the demilitarization of Gaza, and its handover to non-Hamas and non-Palestinian Authority Arab forces.
Responding to the report, the IDF denied the claims set out in the document, insisting that the army had met the operation’s set goals and is continuing to work to achieve the war’s overarching goals.
The military added that the leaked document was “distributed without permission or clearance from the relevant authorities. The issue is being probed.”
114 fallen from Golani, 79 from Engineering, 70 from Givati, 900 in all of the IDF: the inconceivable numbers
They went out to defend the homeland, brought great achievements but paid the heaviest price. Since the war broke out on the morning of October 7, 2023, 900 IDF soldiers have fallen in the battles and another 6,213 were wounded. 311 of the fallen were killed in the battles of containment in the Gaza envelope, 456 in the ground incursion in the Gaza Strip and another 133 were killed in the various combat fronts. All the painful data
In the cities, in the moshavim, in the kibbutzim. In the infantry brigades, in the engineering, in the armor. In the regular army and in the reserves. Almost 23 months have passed since the massacre of October 7, the end of the war in Gaza is not seen on the horizon, and the number of fallen among IDF soldiers in the entire "Swords of Iron" campaign has reached an inconceivable figure – 900.
The number 900, we emphasize, does not include the police officers, the Yamam and Shin Bet men who fell since 7/10. From the beginning of the war also 82 members of the security bodies that do not include the IDF were killed – 67 from the police and Border Police, six from the Shin Bet (four additional fallen on October 7 who served in the Shin Bet were recruited into the reserves and are defined as IDF fallen), five from Fire and Rescue, three from MDA and one from the Prison Service. Last March, part of which the ceasefire was still in force as part of the hostage deal, was the first and the last in the war in which there were no fallen.
But with the renewal of the fighting and the operations that were declared – first "Oz veHerev" and afterwards "Merkavot Gideon" – the number of fighters who fell in Gaza went and grew, and reached numbers not seen since last year. In June 21 fighters were killed in the Strip, the most since October and November last year, then most of the fallen were in battles in southern Lebanon against Hezbollah. In July 18 fighters fell in Gaza and many of them were killed in operational accidents, against the background of the heavy attrition – the obvious result after almost two years of continuous war.
This month, against the background of the decrease in the intensity of the fighting – as part of the preparation for "Merkavot Gideon B" and the conquest of Gaza City that are supposed to be carried out if there will not be a hostage deal – two fighters fell, both in operational accidents: Lieutenant Ori Gerlitz who was killed from the explosion of an IDF charge a week ago, and Staff Sergeant (Res.) Ariel Lubliner, whose fall was permitted for publication this evening, apparently as a result of our forces’ fire.
311 IDF soldiers were killed on October 7 and 8, in the Hamas massacre and in the containment battles in the envelope, and since then another 589 have fallen – of them 456 in the ground maneuver in the Gaza Strip. Out of the 900 fallen, 295 are reserve personnel. 154 of the killed served in permanent service. 71 of the killed are residents of Jerusalem, 25 from Modi’in-Maccabim-Re’ut, 24 from Tel Aviv and 21 from Haifa.
But among the fallen also very many are from small settlements, from all over the country. Golani is the brigade that lost the greatest number of fighters – 114 fallen since the outbreak of the war, 71 of them on October 7, since they were deployed in posts on the border of the Strip on the day of the surprise attack. 49 of the fallen are from Battalion 13 and 43 from Battalion 51. 79 of the fallen are from the Combat Engineering, three of them fell in the battles with the outbreak of the war – and the rest during the maneuver in the Gaza Strip. Among the fallen, 17 are Yahalom fighters, and 17 from Unit 601.
The Givati Brigade lost 70 infantry fighters, among them 23 fighters of the Givati Reconnaissance Unit and 19 from the Shaked Battalion. The first fighter from the brigade fell in battle in Kibbutz Kfar Aza on October 9, and about three weeks later 11 of the brigade’s fighters were killed from an anti-tank hit in a Namer.
On October 7 the Nahal Brigade lost 20 of its fighters, and in the battles afterwards another 41 fighters fell. The number of fallen from the Nahal Brigade since the outbreak of the war reached 61, among them 23 from the Nahal Reconnaissance Unit and 15 from Battalion 931. The Paratroopers Brigade lost 47 fighters, 18 of the fallen are from Battalion 202. The Kfir Brigade, that participates for the first time since its establishment in 2005 in a ground maneuver in the Gaza Strip, lost in the battles 35 fighters. Three of them fell in the battles on October 7, 2023. Since the beginning of the war 45 fighters were killed in the Commando Brigade, among them 16 from Maglan, 14 from Egoz Unit and 12 from Duvdevan Unit – in which before the outbreak of the war there was only one fighter who was killed in operational activity.
In the battles also nine Shaldag fighters fell and nine fighters from Sayeret Matkal. In addition, ten fighters from the Multi-Dimensional Unit (888) and four fighters from the Tactical Special Rescue Unit (669) fell. Also the armor brigades, that are at the front of the war, lost many fighters: 32 fallen in Brigade 401 (Iron Footsteps Division), among them 15 from Battalion 52; 29 fallen in Brigade 7 (Storm from Golan Division), among them 20 from Battalion 77; 13 fallen in Brigade 188 (Barak Division) and nine in Brigade 460 (Bnei Or Division). 72 servicemen in the Border Defense Corps fell in the war, 67 of them on October 7, and among them members of standby squads in the settlements of the envelope, collection fighters and female observers.
Five additional fallen were killed in the battles later in the fighting. In addition, 6,213 soldiers were wounded in the war, of them 3,748 in light condition, 1,540 in moderate condition and 925 in severe condition. Among the wounded, 2,883 were wounded in the ground maneuver in the Gaza Strip – 552 of them severely, 866 moderately and 1,465 lightly. In the hospitals 10 soldiers are still hospitalized in severe condition, 144 in moderate condition and three in light condition. linkIn cabinet clash, far-right minister accuses IDF chief of cowardice over his support for hostage deal
Settlements and National Projects Minister Orit Strock clashed with IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir during yesterday’s cabinet meeting, implying that that the top military commander was a coward, Hebrew media reports.
Zamir expressed support for a partial hostage deal with Hamas despite the issue not being on the agenda, prompting pushback from far-right lawmaker Strock, whom national broadcaster Kan quoted as citing the Biblical verse “Is there anyone afraid and disheartened? Let him go back to his home, lest the courage of his comrades flag like his.”
Hitting back, Zamir declared that he had two missions, “preventing a nuclear Iran and destroying Hamas,” leading Strock to once again recite the verse.
In response, Zamir apparently raised his voice and said that he had called for the operation in Iran, declaring that he “approves strikes everywhere. No one is fearful and fainthearted.”
“If you want blind discipline, bring somebody else,” he declared, prompting agreement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said, “I don’t want blind discipline.”
Responding to the incident, Blue and White-National Unity chairman Benny Gantz tweets that Israelis “deserve a cabinet that backs the IDF.” link Strock, like her counterparts in the racist, extreme, messianic party has no regard for the hostages or soldiers' lives. She has stated multiple times unequivocally that hostages' lives are the price that needs to be paid to achieve their mission. What is their mission? To decimate Gaza, expel all the Palestinians and set up a Jewish only Gaza filled with Jewish settlements. She also claims to be a religious Jew but has clearly abandoned all Jewish values on the altar of messianism. The most important Mitzvah (Jewish Deed) as stated by the Ramban and Rambam, is the redemption of prisoners/ hostages and no price is too high, including ending a war to bring them home. Most of the voters for this extremist party are religious Jews (not the ultra religious) who serve in the army and have a large percentage of the officer ranks. They also make up a large percentage of the soldiers killed in this war because the first thing that officers in the IDF learn is responsibility and the words 'After me'. In most armies in the world, foot soldiers go in and the officers are in the back giving orders. In the IDF, officers are the first to go in and their soldiers follow them. That is the reason so many casualties are officers. Yet, every soldier who goes to officer training and gets the ranks knows, respects and embraces this Israeli value of responsibility and 'after me' action, not just words. It is one of the highest values in the IDF, along with never leaving anyone behind and is part of the fabric that makes up our society. Unfortunately, too many of these politicians, this coalition, have never served in the army, let alone as officers (a number of them were draft dodgers, including the head of their party, Smotrich) and these sacred values mean nothing to them. They are not mottos that they have lived with or adopted, they are not even important words that they speak yet don't act upon. They just don't exist for them. Their 'values' are based on racism, colonialism, and self interests. They do not deserve respect and certainly don't deserve to be our leaders. So when someone like Strock accuses the IDF Chief of cowardice, the very least that the Prime Minister should have done is to shut her up, not only agree with the IDF Chief that blind discipline is not desired. Another stroke of shame on this prime minister who doesn't even know the word shame.

- Trump mulling postwar Gaza plan relocating 2 million Palestinians for multi-billion dollar investment
Washington Post reports that plan, known as GREAT Trust, envisions U.S. oversight for at least 10 years, building AI-powered smart cities, luxury resorts and industrial hubsThe Washington Post reported Sunday that a postwar plan for Gaza is circulating within the Trump administration that envisions relocating the territory’s entire population and transforming the enclave into a U.S.-administered economic and tourism hub.The 38-page proposal, known as the Gaza Reconstitution, Economic Acceleration and Transformation Trust, or GREAT Trust, is modeled on President Donald Trump’s pledge to “take over” Gaza and oversee it for at least 10 years while turning it into a high-tech and industrial center and a luxury tourist destination.
The plan calls for the temporary relocation of Gaza’s more than 2 million residents, either through voluntary departures to another country or into secured zones within the enclave during reconstruction. Landowners would receive “digital tokens” in exchange for redevelopment rights, which could finance new lives elsewhere or be redeemed for apartments in six to eight planned AI-powered “smart cities” inside Gaza. Each Palestinian who chooses to leave would receive a $5,000 cash grant, rent subsidies for four years, and one year of food. The plan estimates that relocating each resident would save the trust roughly $23,000 compared with the cost of temporary housing and basic services for those who remain. According to The Washington Post, the GREAT Trust was developed by some of the same Israelis who created the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, which currently distributes food in Gaza under U.S. and Israeli supervision. Financial planning was conducted by a team formerly with the Boston Consulting Group. The White House declined to comment on the report, and BCG said the work was not officially approved, with two senior partners responsible for the financial model later dismissed. On Wednesday, Trump held a White House meeting to discuss postwar options for Gaza. Attendees included Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special presidential envoy Steve Witkoff, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, who oversaw much of the administration’s first-term Middle East initiatives and has private interests in the region. No formal policy decisions were announced, although Witkoff described the administration’s planning as “very comprehensive.” The plan emphasizes it would not require U.S. government funding and could provide substantial returns for private investors. Mega-projects under consideration include electric vehicle factories, data centers, beach resorts, and high-rise apartments. The plan estimates nearly a fourfold return on a $100 billion investment over 10 years with ongoing revenue streams. Earlier proposals for postwar Gaza included temporary administration under the United Nations or the Palestinian Authority, and plans backed by Arab states for technocratic governance. Israel has rejected proposals that return control to the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority and has emphasized retaining security control over Gaza. The plan envisions Gaza’s reconstruction beginning with clearing debris and unexploded ordnance, rebuilding utilities and the electrical grid, and establishing industrial and tourism zones along the eastern and western borders. New “smart cities” would include housing, commercial and industrial facilities, clinics, schools, parks, and green areas. Legal experts have questioned whether any plan that prevents Palestinians from returning to their homes or fails to provide adequate food, shelter, and medical care would comply with international law, regardless of financial incentives. link
